Frequently asked questions

How is billing handled?

Billing is invoiced manually — there's no card-on-file. Invoices are issued monthly or annually depending on your chosen cycle, and we accept BACS, Faster Payments and direct debit. Payment terms are 14 days from invoice.

Can I move between plans?

Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and we pro-rate any difference on your next invoice. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period — your data and user accounts are preserved.

What happens if I exceed my user limit?

The Add User button is disabled when you hit your tier's seat cap. Contact us to upgrade, or ask your Stock Forge admin to deactivate inactive users to free up a seat.

Is there a free trial?

Every new sign-up gets a 14-day free trial of the Standard plan. After the trial, you'll need to choose a tier and we'll invoice the first period. The fully-stocked demo company is always available without a sign-up.

What are the terms of the 50% new-customer promotion?

New customers who subscribe to any monthly plan receive 50% off for their first 12 consecutive billing months. The discount is applied automatically at checkout — no code required. After month 12, billing reverts to the standard monthly rate for your tier. The promotion is available to first-time subscribers only (one per company) and applies to monthly billing cycles only; annual subscriptions are not eligible. The promotion is available indefinitely and is not time-limited. Your subscription start date is recorded at activation; the discount expires automatically 12 months from that date.

Do you offer discounts for charities or multi-workshop operations?

Yes. We offer 20% off for registered charities and volume discounts on multi-workshop Pro and Enterprise deployments. Email [email protected] for a quote.

Can I host Stock Forge on my own server?

Enterprise customers can elect to deploy on-premise or in their own cloud tenancy. Perpetual licensing (one-off purchase + 18% AMC) is also available on request.

What is the Workshop Map feature?

Available on Pro and Enterprise, the Workshop Map gives you a drag-and-drop 2D editor for your workshop layout — bays, racks, aisles, and gates. Each location tile shows a live heatmap of fill level (empty / partial / full / overstocked). Click any location to see all stock items in it. A 3D rack view (powered by WebGL) lets you visualise tall racking with each beam coloured by occupancy. You can also search by heat number and the map highlights the location instantly.

Can Stock Forge connect to our weighbridge or cutting machine?

Yes — the Pro and Enterprise Device Ingestion layer accepts readings via a POST /api/devices/ingest endpoint secured with HMAC-SHA256 per-device keys. Configurable mapping rules translate incoming readings into actions (tag stock weight, log a cut, update a PO received quantity, and more). A Python bridge utility is included for shops with RS232 serial-only equipment. A test console lets you send a fake reading and preview the action it would trigger before going live.

How does the cutting optimiser work?

Available on Pro and Enterprise, the Cut Plan tab supports both 1D bar nesting (cutting bars, tubes and sections to length) and 2D plate nesting (rectangular shape packing for sheets). Enter your required cuts (length × qty for 1D, or width × height × qty for 2D), pick the source stock to draw from, and the optimiser uses First-Fit Decreasing for 1D and a guillotine bottom-left-fill for 2D to minimise waste — with a configurable per-material kerf width to account for blade thickness. When you accept a plan, stock is reduced and the off-cuts are written back to inventory automatically with full chain-of-custody (heat number, mill, spec and certificate inheritance from the parent bar). The feature is gated behind a per-company Super Admin toggle (cuttingOptimiserEnabled) and requires a Pro or Enterprise subscription. Super Admins can flip this toggle in Super Admin → Companies.

What is Forge AI?

Forge AI is a chat-style steel intelligence assistant on Pro and Enterprise plans. Ask any steel-related question — a knowledge query (e.g. 'What's the difference between S275 and S355?'), an own-data query (e.g. 'How much 152x152x30 UC do I have in stock?'), or a market query (e.g. 'Who would be the cheapest to buy 12m lengths of 152x152x30 UC at the moment?'). For market queries, Forge AI ranks against quotes you've pasted in (text or PDF — the assistant extracts supplier, product, size, length, qty, unit price and validity automatically) and falls back to a curated UK stockholder directory when no quote is on file. There is no web scraping. The 1,000-question monthly cap is shared with the rest of the AI features. Super Admins enable Forge AI per company in Super Admin → Companies (forgeAiEnabled toggle).

What AI features does Stock Forge include?

Pro and Enterprise companies get three AI capabilities: a natural-language stock search box on the Stock and Off-Cuts tabs (e.g. 'show me all 6m S355 RHS in bay B' — powered by gpt-4.1-mini), a predictive reorder panel that projects when each item will hit its threshold based on the last 90 days of movements with a suggested reorder qty, and nightly anomaly alerts that flag unusually large adjustments, off-cut yield mismatches, and odd timing patterns in your stock movements. Each company has a 1,000 NL searches / month cap to prevent runaway costs, and Super Admins can switch the whole feature group on or off per company with the aiFeaturesEnabled toggle in Super Admin → Companies.
